The Canon EOS Rebel T3i can perform faster with a high-speed memory card (around Class 6 or 10 MB/s at least), so getting one is certainly recommended if you want the camera to perform at its full potential.

You should consider starting out with an 8 GB high-speed SDHC if you don’t already have a memory card. The Canon EOS Rebel T3i takes SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards but doesn’t come bundled with any memory (at least with Canon’s official bundles).
